Living Roofs

Sat May 20  9-5pm

Hands-on build of a small living roof for a load-bearing strawbale library at TheSolarStudio in SE Portland. This workshop includes lecture, design ideas, structural details, water management and northwest plants that are appropriate to living roofs.

Bring good shoes, gloves and lunch. (there are many locations nearby to purchase lunch including New Seasons Market, People's coop, Palio's, and much more).

Bottle Wall Building

Sat May 27, 9-5pm

Bring your empty bottles along w/ your workboots and gloves to construct a garden wall for a NE Portland elementary school. Design ideas, stucco options and lighting lectures.

Sat June 3, 9-5pm

We will continue to work on the strawbale library/eco roof project infilling with cob walls. Details, soil mixes, stucco options discussed. Bring workboots & gloves & lunch.

Strawbale workshop in Mt. Shasta, California

Dates TBD (spring/summer weather permitting)

We designed and are building an eco house in Mt. Shasta. Rastra block and framing built fall 2005. Will put up straw walls as soon as the snow melts. House details: Passive solar, PV, Rainwater collection, Rastra, Strawbale, Recycled trusses, and lots more.

$100 for a 2 day workshop (includes lunch)

Camping on site & town options

Mt. Shasta is 6 hours from Portland, and 1 hour south of Ashland

Strawbale Garage Building

Dates TBD (spring/summer 2006)

Hands-on construction of a garage rebuild using strawbale and other recycled materials. Learn techniques of post and beam structure using straw as infill.

All classes and workshops are taught at TheSolarStudio unless otherwise specified:

The SolarStudio is located at 2323 SE Tamarack ave, Portland, Oregon. Nearest cross streets 20th and Division St. SE. 1 block from the Seven Corners New Seasons Market.
Please note that there are 2 fees for each class/workshop. The fee noted is payable direct to instructor at the beginning of class/workshop. The PCC fee which is due with registration is required to reserve space in the classes which are limited.
